Tibet is open!
The Tibetan Autonomous Region is now open to foreign travelers. However, all visitors to the region require a Tibet Travel Permit, which can only be arranged through a travel agency.
Those wishing to obtain a Tibet Travel Permit to visit Lhasa and other locations in the Tibet Autonomous Region must book a tour through a travel agency. At the least, tour packages must include permits, a guide, and if you leave Lhasa, a car and driver.
